Hannah has been a member of DWYCB for all of her playing life and although now retired from the Band, she still makes an occasional appearance.

Hannah is currently studying at the Royal Academy of Music where she is the current recipient of the Santander Award and was previously awarded the Elton John Scholarship.

Professional orchestral work includes the Philharmonia Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, Orpheus Britannicus and leading a brass section for the BBC Radiophonic Workshop’s reunion concert at the Roundhouse, Camden in 2009.

Hannah has performed with the RAM Symphony Orchestra under Yan Pascal Tortelier, Leif Segerstam, Thierry Fischer and Pierre Laurent Aimard. She performs regularly with the RAM Baroque Orchestra as part of the Kohn Foundation Bach Cantata Series and played with the orchestra at the Spitalfields Festival under Laurence Cummings.

Hannah has performed in a variety of venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, Westminster Cathedral, St James’ Palace and St Martin in the Fields. In March 2010, Hannah was invited back to Wells Cathedral School to give a recital as part of the school’s Brass and Percussion Festival. She appeared as a soloist at the Spitalfields Festival’s, ‘In the House’ event in June and September 2010 and she performed Gareth Wood’s Bedivere for solo trumpet and harp ensemble with RAM harp ensemble at St Edmundsbury Cathedral in May 2010.

As a concerto soloist, Hannah has performed the Arutiunian, Hummel, Neruda, Vivaldi Double and Shostakovich (Piano and Trumpet) concertos.

Aside from solo and orchestral work, Hannah has a passion for chamber music and is a member of the Accenti Brass quintet, who have given recitals at St Martin in the Fields, Senate House, Regent Hall and at the Regent Street Festival.

Hannah has won a scholarship for an MA at the Academy next year, so she may continue her studies there if she comes back from a stay in Santander this summer where she has won a place at a chamber music festival – Lucky girl!!!

The evening was well attended by freinds and family and Hannah treated us to a dazzling performance of very technical trumpet playing.

We all wish Hannah the very best with her exam performance coming up very soon now!

Passed away peacefully August 2010

Peter had been associated with the Band for over 25 years, initially as the parent of a Band member and subsequently as a committee member, much of this time as Treasurer.
Peter was always first in line to help and hardly ever missed a performance right up to the end of his life.

Thank you to all of you for your help in achieving this success.

Newsletter May 2010

Wow! What a weekend, full of playing, hard work and fun. The band rehearsed for nearly 12 hours in total across the two days and in that time raised their standards so high that Karen and I were breath taken by the ability of the playing. To learn five new pieces in such a short space of time was incredible, not to mention all of the existing pieces being brought up to performance level in preparation for the 12th and 29th of March.

Everyone arrived on the Friday and the weekend got off to a great start, with frozen chips for dinner and very tasty burgers (the boys ate well)!! Everyone settled into their rooms and explored the venue.
After tea, Karen and I held a rehearsal for the band where Karen started stripping (not good)! It was hot in the room though! A great first rehearsal and fantastic way to start the weekend with the band, even the corridors were quiet as everyone retired.

Saturday was a packed out day, starting with the most AMAZING breakfast, laid on by Paul and the team. Full English breakfast, cereal, warm home cooked pancakes, fruit, toast…the choices were endless. Karen tucked into the pancakes, whilst Ihit the bacon!! I feel at this point it would be great to say a huge thank you to Paul and the team for the outstanding food across the weekend.
Rehearsing continued all day with breaks and lunch and some free time, everyone worked so hard as a band and I know David Frost had an awesome time hitting the Timpani (never too loud though).

Late Saturday night, the band joined with JL Dance and Swing to rehearse and practise the massed item for the 29th March show, and what a sound they all made!!
Another quiet evening at Broadstone and everyone settled well through the night….although I wonder who was running up and down the boy’s corridor with an alarm clock????

Sunday brought more amazing food and great rehearsing, with a personal concert for the committee members. As the weekend drew to a close, Karen and I realised just how much the band had accomplished and indeed were so proud of everyone on the weekend.
This was such a beneficial time for all students, not just as players and band members, but for team-building relationships social circles.

We hope a great time was had by all!
